DSB - Which station is this ? (Generelt)

af Johannes, 24/2 2017, 01:32 (2618 dage siden)

Hi friends

My Canadian friend's Jim's father travelled though Denmark in 1973. He sent me some pictures to identify facts, figures and places.

It would be nice if you could help me.

Were these pictures taken at Korsør as I believe ? - or at Nyborg

Where this nice double traction of MX was taken ? What me intrigued most is the service platform between the first and second track. I couldn't find out till now by looking at Google Earth.

And the MO is nice, too.

Can somebody tell me ?

Thanks
Johannes

My best guesses below each pictures.

Most likely at Nyborg. The direction is just opposite of the next picture.

Nyborg at the ferries.

Plate belongs to Mz 1423.

A few words on some of the diesels seen.
Both diesels had prime mover and traction equipment from Electro Motive (EMD).

Mz 1423:
Build by Nohab, delivered to DSB 13/10 1970.
The unit was part of the second batch of Mz units, which finished the steam operations with DSB in 1970.
The unit is equipped with a 16-645E engine equal to the one found in the SD40 series.
Guess the sound made someone feel quite homesick?
Later, the unit was rebuild with HEP (and the boiler removed), painted in the red/black design and fitted with a silencer for the exhaust.

Mx 1023:
Build by Nohab, delivered to DSB 15/9 1961.
The unit is equipped with a normally aspirated 12-567D1 engine (not the most used engine in north America).
The Mx units got a very good silencer - thus the units do not emit as much noise as many other units equipped with GM-EMD diesel engines.
The Mx class did not see the same amount of re-building as the Mz class during their lifespan.
Yes, the unit was later re-painted in red/black.
The unit was later sold from DSB and it is still in service with the company CFL.

I don't have a clue about which train numbers we see on the pictures; others have to revert on this.

Many thanks, Peter, for the 2 answers.

For Odense - you are right, surely.

I returned to GoogleEarth and found this:

The red arrow points to the big tree behind the locomotive shed. And the service platform was replaced by another track in the meantime.

Considering the short shadow of the man standing near the MX - it was around noon.

Not really. The service platform between the tracks were removed (can't recall when), but the tracks kept their original position. It looked a little odd with such a wide spacing between the tracks.
Even later - most likely mid to late '90 - the two tracks were moved somewhat closer to each other.
There are very few traces of this platform today.

Some arial photos of Denmark can be found here - sorry only in Danish!

A little cut has been made from a 1954 photo of Nyborg.
I have added two red circles where I believe the photos have been taken.
Note: Nyborg F. has been re-build more than once.

Many thanks for the link to the aerial Photos. Really great !

... is this the better standpoint at Odense ?

Well, it will be as close as we get!
