Frichs A.S. diesel engine

af dwem, 15/12 2018, 11:35 (1959 dage siden)

I am writing on behalf of the Netherlands Railway and Tramway Archive "Stichting NVBS-Railverzamelingen".

We have in our posession 3 drawings of a Frichs diesel engine type G 1556 CV or 61556 CV:
* Samlings Tegning 69, scale 1:5
* Samlings Tegning 69 a, scale 1:5
* Belastingskurver, 1 X 145

My question is: does any member have any information about this engine?
Was it used for locomotives or ships or something else?

Thank you for your answers!

Any chance that a scan of the drawings could be provided?
Especially the text box usually found in the right hand corner.

Apart from that, the type designations does not make much sense.
Frichs used either 3 og 4 digit designations for the engines (+ a few "outsiders").
When 4 digits are around, the 1. digit is the number of cylinders and the 3 last is the bore in mm.
Frichs build very few V-engines - most were in-line.

It gives sense if you mean 6165CV.
Please see page 7, second item from top in this document: https://www.ekeving.se/div/rm/Frichs_dieselfordon_1936.pdf

4 pcs 6-cylinder diesel engines bore 165 will have 880 HP. Frichs usually included 10% overload in those days.

Nope!
The La Meuse high speed trains, which got the 6165CV engine, only had 2 engines (not 4).
Each engine were a V12 - one of the very few V-engines with the Frichs name on - and each engine were rated at 440 hp (inc. 10% overload).
If you happen to have "Jernbanen 2/2011" pictures and specification of the 6165CV engine can be found on page 38.

The regular 6165CA were a 6-cylinder, in-line engine used in the MP railcars.

The other V-engines with the Frichs name on will be:
DSB MT 151-167 - 8.220CV
DSB My 1201-1202 - 16.220CV2 (in reality a B&W design which Frichs build via a Licensee agreement).

OK, I was confused because the engine type 6165CV is a 12 cylinder V-engine, but the 8200CV for class MT (not 8220CV as you wrote) is an 8-cylinder V-engine.
Only 2 engine serial numbers (341 and 342) are mentioned for the 12-cylinder V-engines for La Meuse.

MP had 6175CA engines.

Correct - 8200CV is for MT.

Yep - the only two engines made for a single high speed train. The other "sister trains" had engines from other makers. Clearly the SNCB wanted to test various engine types.

MP had 6175CA engines.

True - my bad.
